The Jix - Here to Stay
I love me some good old-fashioned straight ahead Rock and Roll, and Glasgow’s The Jix brings the goods for sure…The band formed back in 2007, but have hit the reset button recently, revamped their lineup and released a new album. I spent some time with their library – it’s all fantastic – and ended up reaching for a deep cut from their outstanding 2019 release ‘State Your Name’ for ‘Here To Stay’.
Pretty Ugly - Fight
I dig big drums and ‘Fight’ by Los Angeles rock trio Pretty Ugly brings them in spades – Pretty Ugly is a trio made up of Parker Chrisbens, Quinn Smialek and Joey Cavallo – I had the band on back on Episode 55, and they have a ton of great tracks, so I figured that it’s time to put them back in your ears. Also – there’s a cool article on the band at onetowatch.com, and there is a link below.
Evol Walks - Spirit in the Sky
Our cover this week was written by Norman Greenbaum and was released in 1969 – the song blew up in 1970 and has become one of Rock’s enduring classics – upon release, ‘Spirit in the Sky’. went to #1 in the UK, #3 in the U.S.and is one of the most licensed songs in films, TV and commercials.
Evol Walks 2017 version reinterprets the song through a modern hard-rock lens. Their instrumentation is heavier, with more aggressive guitar tones and The vocal delivery (by lead singer Leah Martin‑Brown) carries more attitude and grit than Greenbaum’s laid-back original – it really is a fantastic cover.
Keli Holiday - Ecstacy
“Keli Holiday” is the solo project of Adam Hyde, who is better known as one half of the Australian electronic-duo Peking Duk. His sound is awesome – I has his track, ‘Up All Night’ on on Episode 18 and again on 30 and his numbers on the track have gone from 70k to 430 since then and deservedly so – he’s been releasing singles in advance of an impending second album, and if ‘Ecstacy’ is any indication, it’ll be fantastic.
Dred Buffalo - New Disease
Southern New England’s Dred Buffalo is a duo made up of Alerisa Rose Chase Cavacco – they formed in 2022 and have a sound that channels the spirit of ’70s-style rock while sounding fresh and modern – ‘New Disease’ is a killer rock track and the opener of their 2025 debut EP.
Vera Bloom - Eyes On You
Southern New England’s Dred Buffalo is a duo made up of Alerisa Rose Chase Cavacco – they formed in 2022 and have a sound that channels the spirit of ’70s-style rock while sounding fresh and modern – ‘New Disease’ is a killer rock track and the opener of their 2025 debut EP.
Dollyrots - Still Holding On
California‑based punk/rock band the Dollyrots are awesome and are another band that is just outside ‘emerging artists’ status, but I love their cover of ‘Brand New Key’ so I checked in on what they’re up to and when I heard 2023’s ‘Still Holding On’ I knew it was time to get them back on the show, this time with their own track.

Alice Anarchy - Love Me to Death
Episode 57’s trans-feminist grunge rocker Alice Anarchy is back on the show with ‘Love Me To Death’, the lead single off of her late 2025 EP of the same name – I really like what she does, and this EP is some of her best work yet – she’s sounding better and better with each release.

The Black Moods - The Cure
The Black Moods are a rock trio from Tempe / Phoenix, Arizona – they gained wider attention when their 2020 album Sunshine delivered several charting singles on the mainstream rock charts. They’ve got a ton of great tracks including a very cool cover of Jesus Jone’s Unbelievable which is worth checking out – for this show, I opted for ‘The Cure’, a very cool slow-burner that closes their 2022 release ‘Into The Night’
Helen Counts - Unravel
A few weeks back I got an email letting me know that Madison, Wisconsin Indie-rocker Helen Count had a new track out and that I should take a listen because they thought I’d like it, so I did and I do and I think think you will too. It’s called ‘Unravel’ and it’s the perfect closer for this week’s episode.
